Springfield Alumnae Chapter

Efforts to organize a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in Springfield, Massachusetts began in the late 1970's. Prior to that time, members in the area remained active through the Hartford, CT chapter.  After placing an advertisement in a local newspaper to find more members, the 12 charter members came together.  After a series of meetings, and submitting appropriate documents to Grand Chapter, Springfield Alumnae became the 691st chapter of this renowned service sorority on December 5, 1981.  The chartering ceremony was officiated by Eastern Regional Director, Dorothy Stanley. 

Springfield Alumnae is extremely proud of its growth and accomplishments throughout the last 25 years.  The chapter has held a number of reclamation activities and conducted eight membership intake activities, initiating a total of 58 members into this sisterhood.  Springfield Alumnae also took steps to form a collegiate chapter in Western Massachusetts, Pi Iota in 1985.  Pi Iota remains an active and committed Delta chapter and the two chapters frequently collaborate on community service and sisterhood activities.
